Alexej Kakanovich
Alexej Kakanovich is a Russian reporter who travels through the province of “Carinthia” with his cameraman Oleg to explore the local culture, the people, and the intoxicants. He hails from the Caucasian village of Putinskij, and together with Oleg, they found an old camera in a junkyard that they used for filming. Hitching a ride on a freighter to Trieste, they accidentally made their way from the Black Sea into the Adriatic.
They arrive in Klagenfurt in a military transport vehicle, where they begin shooting their new reportage The Man from the Gulag (later The Man from Russia). The Carinthian drug “Speck” quickly becomes Alexej’s newest problem…
